Honeymoons are too often an afterthought to wedding planning, when, in terms of memories, they are just as significant as your day in church.
Initially decide what your goals are for the trip and what you absolutely can’t do without. What parts of the world interest you? Do you want to relax or be active? What are your priorities? Beautiful weather, sightseeing, adventure, cost, etc. Talk over honeymoon ideas with your partner, talk about locations, undertake some online research and seek opinions from family and friends.
Visits to exclusive resorts or islands are traditionally popular, for obvious reasons. Such trips mean that you can spend quality, quiet time with each other whilst relaxing from the busy timetable of the previous six months and taking in beautiful surroundings.
Another option is to take a cruise; they give you an equally peaceful, relaxing experience whilst also allowing you to take in a range of destinations. If you would have a preference for a more action-packed honeymoon, you could try a mountain resort or an adventure travel trip (such as backpacking or a safari).
Regarding honeymoon locations, consider the following: Australia, Bali, Belize, Caribbean, Chile, Costa Rica, Egypt, French Polynesia, Greece, Hawaii, Italy, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Thailand.
Whichever kind of honeymoon and location you decide on, look to make reservations at least 6 months in advance to ensure that you’ll get the best choice of rooms, and can start planning for your time away.
Research and book restaurant seats, tickets, tours, and any other activities for which advance reservations can be needed, particularly so if you’re going on your honeymoon in the summer months (bear in mind that different locations will have different peak seasons). Try not to over-plan though and make sure there is plenty of free time, especially during the first few days, in which simply enjoying the company of one another should be your main aim.
Do what you can to make your honeymoon stand out from any other vacation. Along with your normal vacation items, try packing some fun extras, like candles, lingerie and romantic music. Finally, be sure to take a camera and video camera with you, so you can look back on your special time together forever.
